Club Social 2009

Saturday night was the "club social"; an opportunity for the club to have a party and invite all those who have helped through the year to say thank-you. It is also the club's prize-giving, a time to reflect on the work put in by club members through the year and recognise the special efforts put in by some members.

The journey home 2009

Whilst Matt and Tim were sat in the Copper Kettle cafe at Weston having their breakfast, they mused over this year's carnivals and remarked on how few technical problem we'd had that year.....

Matt Tim and BudgeWell we set off back to Westonzoyland at about 11:00am, fortunately the traffic in town wasn't too bad and again most drivers were friendly and co-operative. We steamed out of Weston up to just before Highbridge when Gary comes over the radio "The tractor's died.. it just stopped!", Gary was towing the generator trailer at the back of the convoy escorted by Budgie, Tim and Matt in the club van. It was soon obvious the tractor wasn't going to start due to a flat battery (the batteries had only been replaced 3 days ago, at a cost of 200). We managed to unhitch the cart from AJ's tractor and hitch it up to the decorated tractor, then sent AJ back to tow Gary into a lay-by and hitch up to the Generator trailer. Once this was done we waved good-bye to a very unhappy Gary sat in his tractor and pulled away heading for the weigh-bridge at Dunball.

Weston-Super-Mare 2009

Weston was a gentle stroll on a calm autumn evening which was a break from the storms of the past few processions and was a great end to the 2009 season. The much talked about 'new route' went without a hitch and we all made it back to the car-park safely.

Many in the club spent the rest of the night celebrating the end of carnival with other arnival clubs, which is how it should be. No medals for us this year but we are very pleased with our entry and every year we're getting better and better.

Glastonbury 2009

E-mail Print PDF

Well the rain finally gave in and we had a dry carnival with an enthusiastic crowd. Despite a communications systems failure we made it round the procession route using old-fashioned hand signals. After the carinval we all piled back to Glastonbury Rugby Club to unwind...

Early Sunday morning we were back to the cart to move it across to Weston-super-Mare for the last carnival. The trip over was long and it seeemed everybody was out on the road to make the most of the weather. After arriving at Weston, we made a bee-line for the nearest cafe for some well earned breakfast :-)

The cart is looking a little tired now, the weather has taken its toll and it's soaked up a lot of rain.

Wells 2009

E-mail Print PDF

Along with a few other carts including Gemini we lined up at Wells at the very top of the ring road into Wells where the winds were very strong and the carts were rocking! We lost some of the waterproof coverings on our roofs and we had a lot of bulbs damaged. Gemini cheered us all up while we stood in the rain waiting to move off by playing every rendition of "Singing in the Rain" they had on their MP3 player!

I think it rained all the way round and the crowds must be commended for coming out. Tonight was the first time Gary drove this year and we made it round the notorious Chamberlain Street corner with ease. As we got the performers off at the end they were looking pretty damp and keen to get home, but this was nothing to how wet the ground crew got by the time we arrived at Glastonbury.
