On June 5th 2010 Westonzoyland Carnival Club celebrated its 50th year in carnival with a Dinner Dance. Over 100 current and previous members attended, as well as specially invited guests. There were 7 previous chairmen as well as our current chairman Chris Burge, and each had a story to tell of their time in the club.
Several members were invited to speak about a particular decade in the clubs history. Unfortunately Bob Heard who was going to speak about the 60's was ill and unable to attend, so Pete (Bertie) Evans took up the baton covering the 60's and 70's. Club chairman Chris Burge spoke about the 80's and 90's and our current Cart Captain Tim Martin finished off with the 0's.
Guest speaker for the evening was Dave Stokes, currently publicity manager for Bridgwater Carnival Committee. Dave grew up in Westonzoyland and from the age of 12 was often found at the shed building or painting.
A specially commissioned cake decorated with the Club's emblem and logo "Laborare Una" (which means 'working together') was cut as a final act of celebration before Spohie Morris performed a selection of classical and more modern songs accompanied by Ryan Burge on guitar. The evening finished with a disco.
